Am I better than here? Am I better than him? Students are constantly comparing. There is this voice every students hear which brings you down. ‘I only take A students’.

Metafoor met de ladders is hier super krachtig. De mismatch tussen onze standaarden en wat een student verwacht.

Your job as a teacher is awaken power in other people. A conductor doesn’t make a sound but enables the orchestra to make sound.

The grade ‘not yet’. If you fail your nowhere. But not yet means you are on a learning curve. Praise the student.

Changing education Paradigms:

A degree is not a guarantee anymore. The route to it is important. The current education system was designer for a different age, moment in time. (Industrial idea)

Students have lots of temptation (distraction), computers smartphones etc. and then a teachers goes to a whiteboard and tells them boring stuff. And teachers find it weird that they are not focussed…

We should wake students up not put them to sleep during a lecture.

Brene Brown:

Empathy and sympathy are different things. Empathy is feeling with people. You climb down and tell them you know how it’s down there. Sympathy is watching from above. Rarely can a response make something better. What makes something better is connection
